The Bolt

This is a painting I did in highschool. Definitely one of my best paintings! I'd originally done an oil painting of a barn on the same canvas, which you can still see evidence of near the top, but decided it was u-g-l-y! This painting is taken from a detail of Fragonard's The Bolt. I absolutely love Fragonard, mainly for his habit of including a "steamy" under- or overtone in his works!

Two-Hour Art Sessions

These are some pictures I did of my friends over Fall Break. I used my Chartpak markers (for the first time since last semester! Yay!) on trace paper with an artist pen for the outlines. I am really proud of them!

Here is a collage I did during a runway show in class! Everyone had designed wearable artifacts inspired by stories we all read.  I created a tape and plastic wrap vest seen here...

Class Exercise

These are two views of the crit. room during a drawing exercise for class.  It was fun to draw so many people at the same time, especially in a class room setting.  I think it's funny to see how differently people position themselves while drawing!

You're Getting on Mi-Nerv-as!

The goddess of wisdom, Minerva also serves as an iconic symbol of UNCG.  Though I feel more could be done in the way of celebrating this beautiful statue, there is no denying our Spartan pride!

Dance Baby!

This drawing was inspired by the dance Mama Meets Mary choreographed by Marcus White.  For months, my Jaleel rehearsed for this performance and the first time I saw it I couldn't help but cry!  And the same for the second time I saw it... and the third!

Who Said that Blind Men Can't See?

Here are a couple of blind contours I did in class.  I've loved this style ever since I first learned it in the ninth grade!  It's the best way to get away with drawing in class while keeping the illusion of paying attention to the teacher!

You Betta Dance!

In February, one of my friends was performing in a dance at the Museum of History for a program celebrating black history.  These are some sketches I took during the performance, with the last two being pictures that I developed from two of the skethes.

Ready, and...GO!

For this exercise we had to hurry!  These are gesture drawings of some of my class mates.

This set was done with a time limit of 60 seconds per drawing.  I really like how these turned out, and with many of them you can actually recognize the models!

And these were done with a limit of 30 seconds each.  The last one was fun because it included two people instead of one.

Bad Hair Day

I can't help it, but I am obsessed with Medusa!  Ever since my participation in the Junior Classical League, Medusa has proven to be an award-winning muse.  In this particular rendering, Medusa's serpentine hair takes dinner into its own hands!

That Time of the Month

Hahaha, I couldn't resist this one!  When your on a deadline to draw as many figures as you can, there's nothing better than a roommates Swimsuit Edition calendar!

College Life

These are some figure studies I did at school.  The dance department is an unceasing source of inspiration.  But, even the mundane gestures around campus prove to be a good challenge.
