So Ugly It Still Works

This was a quick little project I did today for one of my teachers. Earlier this week I gave another teacher a bouquet of sticks, and this one here consists of dried flower, grasses, pokey balls and a cicada! Who knew death could be so beautiful! [Sorry! I know that's not really in good taste!]

Family Portrait

These are pictures taken at my mom's gravesite. I've always loved the color of the stone used for the headstone. The red flower arrangements were done by my Mamaw, and I think they compliment nicely the stone.

Sleeping Beauty

This is my Mamaw taking a nap on the recliner. I love her! She woke up about 5 seconds after I finished!

Cut Me Up

I was very bored when I did this! That's all I have to say!

To the Compost Heap

Here's a banana! Well, what was left of the banana once I ate it...

Love Birds

This is my Mamaw!!! I love her so much, and she's such a sweetheart! She was just fascinated that I could take photos with my computer! LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!

A Loss for Cleveland

Cleveland is a small town, and a place where everyone knows where and what and who everything is. This house, the Gable house, is located in a prime spot on Main St. right below the bridge and beside the rail road tracks. Empty for years and years, thank goodness, it was easily recognizable for a patch of turquoise-painted brick at the top of one of the gables. My personal memory of it is that it always had great Halloween decorations when I was a kid. Sadly, though, it caught fire a few weeks ago, most likely due to lightning. Luckily the fire house is barely a minute down the street. It is a sad loss, and everyone is reminded of it daily, given it's central location in the town.

I DON'T Think These Are Mushrooms

Bleh! While my Papaw was turning his compost pile, he uncovered these! It's a big, ol' cluster of SNAKE EGGS!!! We found an even dozen of them, just 15 feet from the house! They were fairly heavy, and I thought it was weird that they were so dented yet so hard. The strangest though, was that they were stuck together! Huh! But they've gone missing since their unveiling, so I can only hope that we wont have to worry about them hatching!

Snow White

These are two of my Mamaw's liriope plants that stand out from the crowd. The only few that I've seen this color, these white blooms are easy to see in the long line of common purple one's that line my grandparents' sidewalk.

Cactus Blooms

Here are a few shots of my grandmother's cactus plant. It's apparently unusual for them to bloom like this, and she has at least two shoots coming out of hers and I was fascinated by them! It's so strange that a ground-covering plant would have flowers that stand up so high!

You Can Dance if You Wan'to

My boyfriend, Jaleel, is thinking about getting a tattoo that incorporates music and dance. So, going off some details that he's told me, I drew this sketch of a dancer in a pose that loosly resembles a treble clef. It's too much detail for the kind of tattoo that he's wanting, but by itself, I really like this idea!

Goodwill Hunting

This was the cutest box ever! I loved the shape of it- a rectangular octagon. And the sides were curve, which was also a plus! If I'd bought it for myself, I definitely would have painted over the floral-farmhouse-rainbow scenes, but alas! I've no budget for it! [Sad since it was only $3.50 at Goodwill, huh?!]

A Swanky Little Movie

I originally drew this upside down, from the dvd case which was also upside down at the time. I feel like, upside down, you can tell that it is a decent drawing, but you don't get the full effect of the face until you flip it! Oh well, you decide which is best!

[This happens to be my boyfriend's absolute favorite movie, though I don't care for it.]

Oh, You ARE the Manager?

Talk about the worst customer service! When I was walking into this particular Burger King, two of the employes were walking out, to take a cigarette break. But that doesn't compare to the employes inside the building! I first noticed the girl who was literally lying on the counter! Then, appalled, I head towards the employ who is at least standing and facing the door where I walked in. But, when I was about two steps from the counter, he looked at me, took his drink and walked away! My best hope seemed to be the employee who had his back turned to me, reading away in a book, but even then the girl napping away had to get his attention! When he turned around and saw that I was right in front of him, he plum near jumped out of his skin! I was flabbergasted that the entire establishment was filled with workers who clearly didn't want to be there! [When I've been searching for months to find a job!] The whole time I ate my meal I was fuming, and sat in the corner brooding over the terrible service. At least the older couple that was already in there was able to enjoy themselves while watching CNN on the plasma tv that obviously has a place in a fast food joint!

Maybe It Runs in the Family

This is a drawing my mother did.  From the looks of it, I think it's chalk pastels.  I always love seeing things dealing with my mom, and I'm proud that this is one of several of her works displayed in my grandparent's house.

HOO's Idea Was This?

My mother apparently was an artist from what I hear, and there are many evidences supporting this fact.  This owl lamp was created by my mom, and perhaps with help from my dad [though I'm not sure] in a ceramics class umpteen years ago. Here, I've attempted a thumbnail to capture this functional link to the past, but, I think this round goes to my mother.

A Drop of Golden Sun

While staying at my grandparents' home in Cleveland, NC, I have realized that I am surrounded by nostalgia.  This teddy bear, though not mine, is called Sunshine Bear.  As a baby and then as a kid, this was my older brother's favorite stuffed animal.  For years now it has been proudly displayed on various furnitures in my grandparents' house, currently residing in the room in which I am staying.  It has been staring me down for the last few days, so I have decided to jot it down and share it with all of you!  May your days be full of sunshine, physically and spiritually!
